Variable Data Print Programmer

VI Programming - Aurora, IL - Full Time

Variable Imaging - a department of Freedom that offers design-through-delivery services and comprehensive data driven print production and distribution, is seeking a Variable Imaging programmer. As a Variable Imaging programmer, you would be starting out in an entry level position using industry supported software to write logic and lay out variable and static elements on direct mail pieces in accordance with customer instructions. This position will be working directly with customers and various departments within Freedom in either our Aurora, IL or Milton, WI locations.

Qualifications

Successful candidates must be self-motivated with excellent written and verbal communications skills and have the ability to multi-task, analyze, troubleshoot, and problem-solve issues in a fast paced production environment. Attention to detail and accuracy are vital to success in this role.

Candidates should have experience with graphic layout tools, such as InDesign or QuarkXPress, and knowledge of a scripting language, such as Javascript, C#, or Python. Proficiency with variable data print and composition software such as GMC Printnet (Inspire Designer), Page Flex, XMPie, Xtreme Dialogue or Fusion Pro is beneficial.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Consult with client, customer service or supervisor to evaluate individual project needs.
  • Study instructions (illustrations, photographs, or text) to plan presentation of product, or service.
  • Determine size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, select style and size of type, and create sample layouts.
  • Analyzes customer data and merge into variable templates using tools supported by the industry.
  • Prepare proofs for approval by the client for production.
  • Create finished layout and instructions for other departments.
  • Review quality of final product and follow department QC standards before releasing to production.
  • Document job-building processes in accordance with department standards.
